About This Festival
Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade ## About the Event The Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade in New Castle is the Midwest's largest celebration honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Presented by Citizens State Bank and hosted by the New Castle-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, this event brings together the entire community to remember fallen service members and pay tribute to veterans both past and present. What makes this event truly special is its deep commitment to honoring sacrifice with dignity and reverence. The ceremony creates a meaningful space for reflection, while the parade transforms downtown New Castle into a vibrant display of patriotism and community pride. Whether you're a veteran, a family member of someone who served, or simply a community member who wants to show your respect, this event offers a powerful way to connect with others who share these values. The atmosphere blends solemnity with celebration—the morning begins with a formal ceremony that recognizes the gravity of military service, then transitions into a lively parade filled with creative floats, marching bands, and community organizations. It's an event where people of all ages come together, making it perfect for families who want to instill appreciation for our nation's heroes in the next generation. ## The Surrounding Area New Castle, the county seat of Henry County, is a charming Indiana town with deep historical roots and a strong sense of community identity. Located in east-central Indiana, New Castle offers visitors a quintessential small-town experience with tree-lined streets and a vibrant downtown district. The town's courthouse, which serves as the centerpiece for the Memorial Day ceremony, is an architectural landmark that anchors the historic downtown. Beyond the event itself, New Castle provides visitors with local shops, restaurants, and services. The community's commitment to honoring veterans and celebrating patriotic traditions makes it a welcoming destination for those seeking authentic American values and small-town charm. ## Activities & Attractions The Memorial Day celebration features two main components: The Ceremony begins at 9:00 AM on the New Castle Courthouse lawn with a formal program that includes an invocation, the National Anthem performed by the New Castle Marching Band, remarks from local officials, and special recognition of veterans from different eras of service. The ceremony honors veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and those in current service. A wreath-placing ceremony pays final respects to fallen service members. The Parade kicks off at 10:00 AM and marches through downtown New Castle's main streets. Parade participants include floats, marching bands, veteran organizations, and community groups. The VFW invites veterans to ride on their float, creating a special opportunity for those who served to be recognized and celebrated in the procession. Float Competition adds a creative element to the event, with cash prizes and awards for the best decorated entries. Categories include Chamber Choice Float, Crowd Pleaser, Patriotic, Most Unique, and Youth Spirit. Participants are encouraged to incorporate Henry County heritage and names or photos of fallen service members into their designs. ## Schedule & Logistics Event Timeline:
