History and Founding

The festival originated from smaller events in the 1970s, initially named "Saturday On The Square." It evolved into the Back to the Fifties Festival with the addition of Friday night events and support from local businesses. The event became incorporated in 2003 and received not-for-profit status in 2004. It is a member of the Indiana State Festivals Association and aims to promote the visual and performing arts in Boone County. The festival has expanded over the years, adopting its current logo in 2001.
